The Digital Music Revolution Compromise by Steven Cravis 7/21/2003

As a result of the file sharing frenzy on the internet, the record industry's strong legal reaction against the consumers who partake in the sharing, and emerging digital distribution technologies, we come to a grand compromise. It goes something like this: The musicians, including independent artists can now earn decent money while having their music downloaded by fans selectively, each song for 99 cents at sites like http://www.apple.com/itunes/ (which will really boom by 2004 when the windows version becomes available). People will no longer be forced to buy whole CDs when all they really want are the hits. The record industry will come into more integrity because they will no longer be able to sell full albums with only a few hits and the rest non-quality fillers. Instead, they will support the signed artists, more and more over time, to create albums filled with quality hits in order to entice the now more empowered consumer to buy the whole CD.
